PMP stands for Project Management Professional. It’s a globally recognized certification offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI). The PMP certification validates the individual’s competence to perform in the role of a project manager, leading and directing projects and teams.
To earn the PMP certification, candidates must meet certain educational and professional experience requirements. This includes:
- A four-year degree
- 36 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
OR
- A high school diploma or an associate’s degree (or global equivalent)
- 60 months leading projects
- 35 hours of project management education/training or CAPM® Certification
Candidates must also pass the PMP examination, which covers the five project management process groups: Initiating, Planning, Executing, Monitoring and Controlling, and Closing.
After earning the PMP certification, it must be maintained through earning professional development units (PDUs).
