Course Description

This course employs multiple methods of Instruction.
- Interactive, instructor lead presentation
- Ten group exercises to practice auditing a hypothetical company’s program using standards, audit guide (provided), and presentation content
- Examination review

This five day, interactive program provides training, tools, and hands-on experience to audit disaster/emergency management and business continuity programs. This course provides an overview of the Audit process and teaches the student to audit a Business Continuity Management program for conformity to the chosen standard including the areas of program management, risk assessment, business impact analysis, loss prevention, risk mitigation, emergency operations, business continuity strategies, crisis communications, incident management, training and education, testing and exercises, and program improvement. The course also defines the evidence that auditors should gather to determine conformity to audit criteria.

Ten group exercises will enable you to develop your skills by auditing a hypothetical company’s emergency management and business continuity program using the standards, audit guide, and presentation content provided. Learn how to develop your audit opinion and develop your report and presentation to management.

Target Audience

BCMS Auditor/Lead Auditor (ISO22301) is a certificate course designed for mid-level and experienced (minimum of five years Audit experience) corporate planners, internal and external auditors, personnel interested in self-assessing the conformity of their programs, individuals who are responsible assessing disaster recovery/business continuity and emergency management programs for clients and personnel performing audits to better measure their state of preparedness. Attendees are expected to have prior knowledge, which will be used throughout this course.

This course provides valuable insight, tools, and practical experience for planners and auditors of all skill levels.

Prior Knowledge

a) Knowledge of the requirements of ISO 22301
b) Knowledge of the following business continuity management principles and concepts:
- The purpose and benefits of a business impact analysis
- The principles of risk assessment and analysis
- Typical business continuity strategies
- Business continuity response options
- BCMS performance metrics, monitoring and performance measurement
- Exercise and testing methodologies

Objective
The Successful completion of the BCMS
Auditor/Lead Auditor (ISO 22301) course and Passing the IRCA and DRI International exams leads to:

IRCA: Satisfying training requirements for certification as an IRCA BCMS Auditor.
DRI International: Earning a Certificate in Business Continuity Planning for Auditors from DRI International, as well as 32 Continuing Education Activity Points (CEAPs) towards recertification.

Comprehensive learning objectives cover the fundamentals of auditing and all of the subject areas in ISO 22301, ISO 19011 and DRI’s Professional Practices.
1. Learn the elements of a disaster/emergency management and business continuity program as defined by the International Standard ISO 22301
