COURSE OVERVIEW
Land-based drilling for oil that requires combining heavy machinery and equipment with volatile hydrocarbons extracted through high pressures had always been hard, dirty, dangerous work. But drilling in offshore environment introduces new risks, with many processes that could go wrong. Yet, in recent decades the technology, laws and regulations, and practices for containing, responding to, and cleaning up exploration failures lag behind the associated risks of drilling into large, high-pressure oil and gas reservoirs. Moreover, existing oil industry preparedness, human safety and environmental provisions and regulatory oversight for exploration and production have not been able to fully grasp the enormity of the multidimensional consequences of engineering failures in geographies with rich natural biodiversity. From accidents history, when oil exploration and production failure occur regaining reservoir control becomes a is a difficult engineering challenge, spiralling the costs of failure to a catastrophic level. Thus, this comprehensive oil spill and pollution preparedness, response and control course provide an expertise knowledge and framework to assist management and oil fields operations personnel in oil spill contingency decision-making This learning and development programme is designed in such a way to prepare the course delegates working in environment with unanticipated hazard potentials associated with oil field operations.

Outline

COURSE OBJECTIVE
After the successful completion of this course, each participant will be able to;
• Gain in-depth knowledge on oil spill management and response including the behaviour, fate and effects of oil spills in the marine environment and water contaminant containment and decontamination.
• Evaluate the sensitivity of rich natural biodiversity and human settlements around oil exploration fields to understand the manner of clean-up response techniques application.
• Acquire knowledge by observing clean-up operations to understand the know-how for setting measurement and control mechanisms during operational strategies development.
• Establish an incident scene command centre and coordinate the response team contributions during incident clean-up.
• Communicate oil spill assessment and strategies deployment for successful emergency response and clean up exercise.
Apply and handle media engagement and other public relations techniques involves decisionmaking decisions with wide ranging implications on response outcome for reputation of the organization.
• Familiarise with the required documentation, reports and other paperwork in accordance to the standards operating
