The Horizontal Axis
represents two opposing ways of gathering information:
Reflective Observation (RO)
- Individual passively observes others involved in experiences, then makes sense of what is observed by reflecting on what happened from different perspectives
Active Experimentation (AE)
- Individual jumps right into experiences and initiates activities to see what happens
The Vertical Axis
represents two opposing ways of evaluating information for learning:
Concrete Experience (CE)
- Individual generates learning through their feelings while dealing with a concrete reality
Abstract Conceptualization (AC)
- Individual generates meaning through thinking about and analyzing new information to form abstract concepts, generalizations, hypotheses, models, or plans
