Workshop on Security on Wheels: Safety / Security Awareness Course for Drivers

Program overview:

In a depressed economy, violent crime within the immediate environment is always on the increase. On daily basis we are being confronted by armed robbery, kidnapping, hired assassins, extortionists, 419 etc. The victims mostly are chief executives, managers who are mostly attacked in transit or sometimes at their various residences. Interestingly, the driver’s position in the whole scenario is quite strategic, in that he conveys these Executives/Managers and other staff members from home to offices on daily basis and often times to meetings and tours. The driver is accountable for the safety of his passengers/staff, vehicle/bus protection and pilferage control. For drivers to effectively take charge of these responsibilities there is need for drivers to undergo training and retraining in safety/security awareness in order to sharpen their security consciousness

All company drivers with responsibility for the safety / security of top organizational VIPs they convey.

Learning objectives:

At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

•          identify their role in the safety/security of the boss/staff they convey;
•          upgrade and re-emphasize their safety consciousness;
•          develop the initiatives to detect and prevent crimes in the light of prevailing situations;
•          equip them with skills for safety/security management in emergency situations; and
•          acquire basic lifesaving skills required in emergencies when accident occur.

Day 1: Safety and Security Hazards for Organizational VIPs in

contemporary Nigeria: An Overview

• Roles and responsibilities of Drivers in V I P safety and security management 
• Defensive driving techniques
• Night driving-security precaution
• Security measures for Drivers:

o   Understanding the basics of crime prevention, detection and control

o   Material protection and pilferage control in Vehicles

Day 2: Psychology and management of Armed

Robbers, Hired Assassins and Kidnappers

on Highways

• Robbery on the highways - New Tricks & approaches
• Driver and the boss as target of assassination
• Effective Management of Safety and Security Emergencies

o   The first aid/rescue techniques

o   Fire safety/prevention techniques

• Preventive Maintenance as Safety / Security Management Strategy
• Routine checks
• Practical demonstration of vehicle maintenance checklist

Training Methodology

Lectures, discussions, exercises, case studies, audio-visual aids will be used to reinforce these teachings/learning methods.
