Program Overview:
Accidents, injuries, sickness and insecurity are daily facts of life. However the world of work exposes working people in a peculiar way making them more vulnerable to these accidents. Precaution therefore, is vital if industrial accidents are to be minimized and productivity improved. This can be achieved through training and retraining thereby creating awareness in the mind of the workers. This workshop is therefore designed to enable participants develop requisite skills for enhancing industrial safety in their work environments.

Operation managers, Supervisors, Project Team Leaders, Foremen, Plant managers, Factory managers and workers who are prone to occupational accident in their work environment in Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Construction and Engineering Services industries that find the programme relevant.

* define and explain safety issues within and around their work environment;
* identify causes of occupational health hazards/industrial accidents;
* investigate and identify measures by which losses, resulting from avoidable accidents can be reduced;

* design relevant safety communication channels/measures to control and reduce occupational health hazards

Course Outline:
Day 1: The concept of occupational health and industrial safety:
- Accidents, injuries, sickness and insecurity In the work environment

- Introduction to safety at work:
o Risk assessment and Accident Concepts
- Accidents:
o Causes in work environments
o Accidents reporting procedures.
Day 2: Identifying and tackling occupational health and safety hazards in the work environment
- Health, Safety and Environment Management System and its implementation
- Hazard identification and control,
- Application of job hazard analysis,
- First Aid and CPR
- Implementing occupational health and safety management system in the work environment
Day 3: Injuries: a matter of probabilities, HSE performance indicators, Loss time injury frequency (LTIF)
- Understanding workplace ergonomics Workplace interactions,
- Ergonomic risk factors:
- Ergonomics of Computer usage,
- lifting techniques
- Types and uses of personal protective safety devices in the work environment
Day 4: Accidents investigation, reporting and prevention
- Accidents and injuries at work
- Identifying causes of accidents
- Contributing causes of accidents
- Immediate causes of accidents
- Effects and costs of accidents
- Reporting requirements
- Importance of prevention
Day 5: Fire safety: Prevention, detection and
fire crisis management in the work environment
- Contingency planning/crises management in
the work environment
- Industrial safety plan and implementation

- Waste management recycling option, abating
environmental pollution
- Role of insurance in industrial safety management
Training Methodology
Lectures, discussions, exercises, case studies, Audio-visual aids will be used to reinforce these Teaching/learning methods
Speaker/s
Engr. Akinbanjo Ogun – HND Mech., PGD. Safety Education, University of Ibadan. Member Nigeria Society of Engineers, IOSH Certified. A seasoned professional facilitator in the areas of facilities maintenance and management, construction site, environmental and industrial safety and industrial production expert. Engineer Banjo Ogun has worked as a site and safety engineer in Nigeria railway cooperation, Vita Construction Company limited etc. for over a decade. He had supervised buildings, bridge and roads construction, and other lots of project awarded by the federal government of Nigeria in various states. Engr. Ogun has equally worked as Safety Advisor, QC Analyst and Production Manager in different industries in both Public and Private Organizations. Engr. Ogun has lectured and facilitated at a number of training workshops in the areas of Occupational Health Hazards & Bio-mechanical Work Processes, Ergonomics Hazards / Assessment & Work Safety Regulations / Procedures.
