EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The programme provides tailored technical support and training for government officials, regulatory agencies, consumer organizations, businesses and academics. The ultimate objective is to establish legal and regulatory frameworks to protect and empower the consumer and ensure businesses develops in a way that benefits everyone.
Modern economies have opened up unprecedented possibilities for consumers across the world. The supply of goods and services is increasingly globalized; transaction costs are swiftly decreasing; and the progress of ICT enables the conclusion of contracts with a few clicks of the mouse. However, new challenges arise that may undermine the contractual position of consumer. Unfair trading practices, the artificial manipulation of markets, and the lack of adequate redress mechanisms all contribute to uncertainty and instability. Indubitably, the problems of economic stagnation and inequality can be linked to problems arising in consumer markets, which are increasingly important sites of legal and political activity and contestation. Moving from these premises, this course introduces participants to the core disciplines of consumer protection law and gives the attendees some great insights into the concept of consumers as stakeholders, ethics of consumer protection and the different kinds of competition.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants should be able to:
• Understand and successfully use a variety of basic consumer law terminology and concepts;
• Discuss the basic theories of consumer market regulation;
• Examine areas of doctrinal and political debate surrounding those theories;
• Apply the basic system of consumer protection rules and apply to concrete factual problems.
