This module defines the supply chain and provides background information to introduce the concepts of SCM in a modern-day business environment. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the field of supply chain management has become tremendously important to companies in an increasingly competitive global marketplace.
It gives a comprehensive outline of the key deliverables from effective management of supply chain in the public, private sector participation in production and services areas of the economy. The term supply chain refers to the entire network of companies that work together to design, produce, deliver, and service products. In the past, companies focused primarily on manufacturing and quality improvements
within their four walls; now their efforts extend beyond those walls to encompass the entire supply chain.
Why do this? Most of the gains achievable from an internal focus need to realized to drive bottom-line gains and efficiency, while the opportunities that exist through cooperation and collaboration remain the new frontier! This module will take Supply Chain Managers or Assistants through key elements of supply chain management and provide a background for the concepts covered in our full-length modules.
Scope / Context :
To expose participants to the rich knowledge of Supply Chain Management and its strategic role in corporate performance.
Be able to develop a winning formula that is linked to the organizations’ focus on the ultimate customer/consumer.
Be well equipped to develop a competent systematic cross-functional in-sourcing/outsourcing competitive analysis process for determining how much of the design and manufacturing process and/or operations and services will be performed in-house and how much to farm out!
Develop and apply a value-oriented management technique in the sourcing and supply chain process
